Tabitha Sookdeo

Tabitha Sookdeo is the Executive Director of CT Students for a Dream and Director of the CT Immigrant Support Network. A formerly undocumented immigrant from Guyana who grew up in Sint Maarten, Tabitha came to the United States as a teenager and has dedicated her life to advancing justice and opportunity for immigrant communities.

For over a decade, she has been a leading voice in immigration organizing, working alongside some of the most vulnerable populations, including migrant farmworkers facing conditions of modern-day slavery. Through her leadership, she has helped build powerful coalitions that advocate for the rights, dignity, and protection of immigrants across Connecticut and beyond.

In addition to her advocacy work, Tabitha is completing a dual Master of Environmental Management and Juris Doctor (MEM/JD) at Yale and Vermont Law School, where she focuses on the intersection of immigration, human rights, and climate displacement. She also serves on several nonprofit boards, continuing to expand her impact and leadership.

Tabitha’s work reflects an unwavering commitment to justice, dignity, and opportunity. These are values that embody the legacy of Angela R. Andersen. Her leadership continues to inspire and empower displaced communities, particularly as global challenges like climate change increasingly shape migration and human rights.
