K. Umesh Vig is the Director of Student Affairs Operations at CT State Community College Manchester (CT State Manchester), Manchester, CT. He is responsible for the Student Affairs Operations Unit in the Division of Student Affairs overseeing Commencement, Campus Incident Response, International Student Affairs, Student Conduct Program, Student Conduct Review Board, Student Affairs Communications (Publications and Webpages), Cafeteria, Follett Bookstore at CT State Manchester, Follett Bookstore Scholarship, Welcome Center, CT State Manchester Ambassador Program, Campus Assessment Response and Evaluation (CARE) Team, and Special Campus Events including but not limited to the Opening Day Planning Committee.

He also serves as the Student Conduct Officer and the CARE Team Co-Chair for CT State Manchester. He holds a Master’s degree in Higher Education & Student Affairs from the University of Connecticut, a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications from Eastern Connecticut State University, a Master’s degree in Military Science & Strategy from the Officers Training Academy, India and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English, Economics and Philosophy from Guru Nanak Dev University, India. He has over forty years of experience as a leader, intercultural communications and leadership trainer, conflict resolution expert, entrepreneur, and higher education administrator. 

After his nine-year stint with the Indian Army as an officer, he served as an Executive Assistant to the President of a Fortune 500 company in India, and in 1993, he founded Visage Communications, a public relations/corporate communications company. A self-professed Global Nomad, a feminist, a writer, an avid reader and photographer, he has made Connecticut his home since 1998, the year he moved to the U.S. from India, and is fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi, and conversant in Urdu and French.

K. Umesh Vig was appointed as a Commissioner to serve on the Advisory Board for the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity and Opportunity (CWCSEO) by the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the State of Connecticut for his work with the Asian Pacific American community and serves on Asian Pacific American Affairs Sub-Commission for the CWCSEO. He currently serves as the Vice President for the Board of Directors for the Connecticut Immigrant and Refugee Coalition (CIRC) and served at the Chairman of CIRC from November 2022 through December 2025. He served as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC) of CT from May 2010 through May 2017. He serves as the CT State Manchester 4Cs Union Chapter Delegate and as a Grievance Officer, served as the Community College Division Representative on the NASPA (Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education) Region I Advisory Board, served on the NASPA Region I – Connecticut Advisory Board, and served as the first Asian American President of the Alumni Association Board of Directors at Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic, CT.

K. Umesh Vig received a High Honors Award in recognition of his outstanding service to the Asian Pacific American community in CT from the Samhang Pilipino-Amerikano of CT (SAPAC) in November 2012 and November 2014. He was an Honoree at CIRC’s 17th Annual “Connecticut Immigrant Day” at the State Capitol in April 2014. He received the Higher Education & Public Service Award at the Tenth Annual Gala of the Asian Pacific American Coalition of CT in recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedicated service to the Asian Pacific American community in CT as the Chair of the Asian Pacific American Coalition of CT in May 2017 and received the Employee Leadership Award in honor of Grace Lee Boggs at Manchester Community College’s Fifth Annual Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Celebrations on May 1, 2018. K. Umesh Vig received the Patriotic Public Service Award from the Secretary of the Army on February 5, 2021, for his most outstanding patriotic spirit, “can do” attitude, generosity, and hospitality in support of the Army’s mission accomplishment and welfare of future soldiers. In January 2025, K. Umesh Vig received the Public Service Award from the Albany Recruiting Battalion, the largest Recruiting Battalion in the U.S. Army Recruitment Command, in appreciation for his unwavering commitment and support for the Army’s mission accomplishment and welfare of the future soldiers.
